Struggling with Loneliness
I want to talk about loneliness today. It's something which can affect anyone and which I have struggled with in the past. Whilst it is not in itself a mental health issue, it can easily contribute to other problems so I feel it is something which needs spoken about more.
I was at my loneliest two years ago. I was in my second year of university, living in a student flat, and whilst my flatmates were friends from first year, living with somebody is very different to just being friends.
Both of my flatmates were extroverted whilst I'm an introvert who enjoys my alone time - which can cause lots of problems apparently. I ended up feeling very alone and without friends which resulted in tears being shed a few times.
This is not a pity party. I'm absolutely fine, but I have struggled in the past and many people do. Loneliness is often only spoken about with regards to the elderly or new mothers but it can affect anyone.
Advice is hard, it would be the usual 'socialise, join a club etc.' and whilst that's all well and good, I'm not sure it helps. Obviously if you feel alone the solution is to make friends, but it's not as easy as that or people wouldn't struggle with it!
The only thing I would say is that you will not always feel this way. I'm testament to that!
Anyway, I uploaded a video on loneliness if you're interested, and please do feel free to comment if you fancy a chat 😊
Oh, and join a club if you can 😉
